F. Schmidt Bass Trombone 503B (similar to a Bach 50B) for sale in Katy, TX
Up for sale today is a used F. Schmidt bass trombone. This is model 503B, and boasts two in-line, independent rotor valves for facilitating flexibility down in the lower register (F and Gb). This horn mirrors the specs of a Bach 50 B3O without the hefty price tag. We purchased this instrument back in 2009 and I am its original owner. Don't be fooled by the horn's maker not being Bach or Edwards, etc.-this horn has held its own fairly impressively in the ring. I used this as my weapon of choice for two years of high school contests and four years at the auditioned collegiate level. It's been of great use in big bands, community bands and orchestras for about a decade. It plays very well and open, and just pops down in the lower register. I've had work done on the valve linkage in the past to keep things fluid and quiet, so that's why it might look a little odd. It comes with many of the commonly seen signs of use: lacquer wear, small dents on the bell and slide crook, but nothing that inhibits it's ability to project the user's intent. Included with the trombone is the original case in great condition (both handles are in fine working order, as well as both zippers) and I'll throw in the original stock mouthpiece (I never used it, as I had another I favored). The trombone stand is not included in this listing, sorry! I only used it to help take the pictures. Unfortunately for this instrument, I've since graduated and upgraded, and this has been demoted to my "backup" horn. However, I feel it's time to let it be in the hands of another in need of it's services. These originally retailed for $2300.
